Bardsey is a small island approximately 1.5 miles long by half a mile, with a lighthouse at the S end. The island lays a short boat trip from Aberdaron near the end of the Lleyn Peninsula in NW Wales. The island has an observatory situated in the centre. The whole island is farmed in the interest of wildlife. Bardsey’s most numerous avian breeder is Manx Shearwater with 16,000 breeding pairs. Birders can stay in the observatory a week at a time.

Other birds found here include Chough and Peregrine and a wide range of seabirds. Mammals include Grey Seals, Porpoises and Dolphins.

The island is noted for its 350 species of lichen.
