Birding Site Guide The following visitor costs and facilities information is from Friends of Potteric Carr website http://www.potteric-carr.org.uk/ Access is from Doncaster or via M180 junction 3, head for B&Q Depot and reserve is signed off this roundabout. Single £2.50; family £6.50 (a family is up to two adults and up to three children); child £1.50; concession £2.00. (Yorkshire Wildlife Trust members: single £1.00, family £2.50).
Single £10.00; family £20.00 (a family is up to two adults and up to three children). (YWT members: single £2.50, family £5.00). Open 7 days a week 09.00 to 17.00 tickets bought at reserve on arrival. Groups should obtain permission before visiting. The need to carry a permit/admission ticket is a condition imposed by the YWT to meet its obligations to Network Rail (due to live railway lines on the site) and on no account should visitors cross railway lines if they are not in possession of a valid permit/ticket.

Birds seen (1981 to present) include commoner farmland and woodland species and a wide range of marsh and water birds. The site is noted for its Bitterns, as it is a reliable site for them. Rarities not seen by me include Little Bittern Ixobrychus minutus, Purple Heron Ardea purpurea, White Stork Ciconia ciconia, many ducks including Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca , White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla, Red-footed Falcon falco vespertinus, Marsh Warbler Acrocephalus palustris and other scarce species.
